Good Idea at the Time

I was looking through some old photos with my boys as they wanted to see pictures of me in my younger days.  I don't have many as my sister has most of them but once we started digging through boxes of  pictures it was hard to stop.

We looked at pictures for a couple of hours- snorting and laughing at the fashions and hair cuts and general style (or lack of style) of our motley crew.

It was rather humbling looking at the pictures as I remember thinking that we all looked pretty good back then.
I guess photos don't lie.

My first wedding we all wore hats (yikes!) and orange dresses (good lord)  and platform shoes.  I had long straight hippie hair.

We thought we were hot.

This is not us but could be.

I hope the curtains aren't the same as the couch or those bridesmaids will disappear when they sit down!
Let me say again, this not us and I am not in this picture.

So on the same note of thinking  it was a good idea at the time, this picture below is a cake.

This is what my neighbor made for her husbands birthday cake.

It's a  litter box cake, crumbled white and chocolate cake with the addition of melted tootsie rolls placed in the cake and over the edge of the box.  She said she made it because he never cleans the cat box.

Who ate cake?

No One.

Some Days I Just Can't Stay Connected....

It's really difficult to blog when the sun is shining and there are days off!

I did write a few things but my reading of your blogs got way behind.

 I feel bad.

You are all so interesting and I like how you share your lives with us and I feel like I am the bad neighbor who failed to wave as you drove by.

So,  I'm sorry, sometimes its just a little tough to stay in touch ...

...so I'll let Jim Unger explain

Bat Wings

Yesterday was a boating day.  Not weather-wise as it was cloudy and windy but Sean had made a wake skate in wood shop and needed to try it out.

We packed a cooler and hooked up the boat.

Launching the boat was easy as no one was going out on the water.  Excellent!

We went over to an area that we don't normally go to when dragging kids behind the boat but we are always up for a new adventure. The water was a bit choppy and we knew we should have gone to the sheltered side of the lake but we were already there.

Ellison Park

They are on the tube and they are excited.

Did I say the water was a bit choppy?

Taking pictures of a bouncing tube, in a speeding rocking boat is not a good combination for me.

The tube ride didn't last long and the wake skate was not put in the water.

The water is the temperature of snow melt.

We boated around, looked at the cottages and cabins, (there is a big difference between the two), ate our snacks, saw some baby osprey, did a drive by of the family cabin (no one was there) and then back to the boat launch.
Still windy, still choppy, and still no boat trailer traffic.

Look closely - there are two osprey babies in this nest.  They make the nicest squeeky sound.

It was a good day.

Are you wondering about the title of my post?  That's what my upper arms look like.

I should have been swimming beside the boat instead of taking pictures with my feet up.

and...

I hope all my American friends and family have a very Happy Independence Day!

Enriched, Revived, Restored

Yesterday was Canada Day.  While people were cottaging, enjoying Canada Day Celebrations, playing slow pitch in the local tournament, boating and entertaining, I was reading.  I reread Trinity and Pillars of the Earth.  Both fairly large books which I started early Thursday evening and finished late Friday night (Saturday morning really).

Sean was at a friends house and slept over, Adam was Paintballing and at a friends and husband was rebuilding or repairing his dirt bike.  I'm not sure what he was doing, I just heard noise in the garage.

I had no one to feed, no driving to do, no obligations. A wonderful day.

I don't recall mentioning in my earlier post, a few things about me, that when I read I become deeply immersed.  Like Nero everything could burn down around me, unnoticed, while my head is buried in a book.

I think that is why my family insist I don't read - because I become anti-social,  they say.

I think they are being a bit picky.
