Love It or Hate It

We had a wee bit of snow and The Boys were out trying gather together enough snow to start the build of their front yard snowboard park.

This photo below does not pertain to them as they would shovel all day long just to build some jumps.

For the rest of us this is just too close to home.

Their shovelling efforts were in vain - the sun came out and now the snow is gone.

Run!

Last night The Boys and I went for a run.

Not far, 1 km out 1 km back.

When we were returning home Son #1 said "mom, you run like your shoes are going to fall off."

Thank goodness it was dark  and no one could see me try to kill him.

Mammograms and Ogopogo Hallucinations

Once a year I go for a mammogram.

Not the most pleasant experience but, by far, not the worst.

And it is quick.
In, strip, four images and leave.
10 minutes to save your life.

I don't always get the same technician.
Some are young, some are old, some are chatty, some are funny, some are odd.

Friday's technician fell into the last category.

She and her husband were driving back from Vancouver and when they passed through Peachland or Summerland, or one of those tiny towns perched on top of a mountain side with a clear and full view of Okanagan Lake, when she saw Ogopogo.

Ogopogo is a mythological creature similar to the Loch Ness Monster.
It is said to live in Okanagan Lake.

Several say they have seen it and the only documentation is some wave action where this water creature was said to be.

I'm pretty sure it isn't real but I still panic when weeds touch my legs.

Back to my mammography technician story.

She told me, while standing behind her protective screen, while I was trapped - held captive really - in her imaging machine that people who do not believe that Ogopogo exists are really narrow minded and she was going to, single handed if necessary, right the world of this wrong.

'Get any pictures of it?' I asked (knowing the answer would be no.)

"Everyone wants pictures! is it not enough to just realize that we are not alone in this world? That other things exist?"

I was getting a bit nervous.

'Did your husband see it too?' I asked
'Of course not, he was driving.'

Uh huh - just as I thought.

My take on her sighting of this mythical creature?

I hope someone reads the results of my screening.
I'm not sure what she might see in the image of the insides of my breasts..

These aren't mine.
Mine aren't that perky.

We Are all a Little Loonie

A Canadian economist has been rallying to have the population of Canada (and elsewhere) stop calling our dollar coin "The Loonie".
He says it's a joke and childish.
He takes great shame in the fact that we call it a Loonie.

And just so you know, when it is traded on the TSX, it is referred to the Canadian dollar not the Canadian Loonie.

We call it the Loonie because

1.)  It has an image of a Loon on it

2.) The whole idea to change from a paper dollar to a coin was complete lunacy (or Loon-acy)

Our Loonie turned 25 years old last December.
We love it -  except for the 2012 issue which is thinner and screws up vending machines and parking meters.

Scuttlebutt from the CBC call in show on this latest Loonie name change issue follows:

"Put an image of a deer on it and then we can call it a Buck."

"Make it illegal to call it a Loonie - give people a ticket when they call it a Loonie."
(I think we should make them pay these tickets in Loonies - poetic justice)

"Put the image of this economist on it and then we can truly call it a Loonie."

We are Canadian.

If we can't laugh at ourselves then we will have to laugh at others,

and that will just pi$$ them off.

Snake Oil in Print Form

This is my  horoscope for today.

Virgo

Focus and take care of your responsibilities.
What you accomplish will impress someone who can help you advance and help you get revenge regarding someone who has done you an injustice in the past.
Discipline and moderation will be required.
3 stars

I'm going to stop reading these horoscopes because this one says I will get help  getting revenge on someone.

I am the least revengeful person  I know.

I'm starting to think this horoscope business is bunkem!

If you Smell Smoke - Dinner must be Ready.

This is startng to be a Holiday dinner tradition.
One I'd rather not honor.

It's a Joy Moment
Gas stove and oven mitts - first I notice the smell, then the heat, then the flames and then I shriek.

Son #1 put out the fire by whacking at it with a dinner fork - ineffective really - all the while saying, "mommy! you're on fire."

You will see from the condition of the oven mitt that this is not the first time the gas flame has ignited the mitt.

Sad really.

The Weeks have just blown by!

Here's what's been going on while I have been neglecting your blogs and mine.

The Boys bought a Unicycle

They are stuck in that sad area between being  men and boys.

Braces or, as they say to justify the $6500.00 tab, orthodontic appliances for Son #2.

I could have bought several major appliances with that kind of cash.
They gave him wax to put between the braces and the lips in case kissing was painful.
I guess he didn't tell them about the unicycle.

Dry Grad Fund Raisers - note to self - don't volunteer EVER for the bottle drive.  Nasty things in those bags of cans and bottles.

Son #1 got his four wisdom teeth removed at $350.00 per tooth.  Someone's taking a nice vacation and its not us!

If our boys don't take the unicycle and join the circus perhaps dentistry would be a good professional choice.

My turn hosting Ladies night - I love my ladies - they are funny and kind and like to drink wine.

Suffered through The Flu when I was really hoping for EColi so I could sue and use the money to pay for the dental work.

Canning, preserving and pickling garden overabundance or, as my gramma used to say, "putting up".  Never quite got the gist of that saying.

And finally, interspersed throughout the above annoyances and general busyness, were several blond moments, or, as they shall be called from here on, Joy Moments.

Joy Moment #1
Looking and looking and looking for the Crock Pot recipe book and then finding it (after the meal was cooked) tucked safely in between the metal outer and the ceramic inner of the crock pot.
The corners of the pages are a wee bit charred.
.
Joy Moment #2
Trying to open the car door with the computer chip key, door will not unlock,  expecting huge bills to repair the computers, worrying that I will be late for the orthodontist, only to realize that it was not my car that I was trying to open - my car was in the parking stall next to it.
In my defence, they were both dark navy.

Joy Moment #3
Came out of the washroom at work and my skirt was tucked into my panties - really unattractive and a co-worker had to notice it for me.

Joy Moment #4
Answered the phone.
Her"  Hi, how are you today?"
Me: (inward groan crap! another telephone survey).  "Fine thanks"
Her:  "What's your favourite radio station?"
Me:  "CBC"
Her:  silent
Me: " Hello?"
Her:  "no,you're on the air with SunFm, if you had answered 'SunFM Vernons favourite music station' you would have won today's amount of $115.00."
Me:  "okay, well,  thanks anyway."

Shit! CBC never gives away money and I could have used that $115.00.

And finally, this weekend is the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend and yes, in spite of all my complaining I am thankful.
I'm thankful for my great family and that we are all healthy and thriving.
I am thankful for all my friends - blog friends included!
I am thankful that I live in a country of people who are not only tolerant but accepting.
and with that I leave you with these words.
They are not my words but could be if I were poetic.

Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know everything,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.
